ROBERT HILL-SMITH AWARDED HIGHEST HONOUR Fifth generation winemaker, Robert Hill-Smith, at Yalumba, has been awarded the highest honour there is in the company - named Yalumba’s 54th Signatory on Wednesday night. The presentation of this title also marks the 2012 vintage release of the Yalumba The Signature Cabernet Sauvignon & Shiraz. Each vintage, The Signature release recognises an individual that epitomises the culture of the family owned company. Robert, who took over Yalumba at the age of 34, becoming one of the youngest Managing Directors in Australian wine history, has achieved significant milestones for the company, including the buy-out of numerous family shareholders in 1989. Yalumba Chief Operating Officer Nick Waterman said: “The Signature tradition began with the 1962 vintage, which posthumously recognised Robert’s great-great grandfather and Yalumba founder Samuel Smith. The Signature will be released in February 2015. NEWS Figures and facts, people and policy, corporate and community JOHNNIE WALKER BLUE LABEL ROOM Johnnie Walker has unveiled its newly transformed venue at Royal Randwick in Sydney. Set for the racing season, the Johnnie Walker Blue Label Room is located on level 4, in The Stables at Randwick. The room is for luxury private members, allowing guests to work, network, entertain and relax this season. The venue features a lounge area and outdoor bar, and at the bar the full range of Johnnie Walker, including Johnnie Walker Blue, is available. THE CHAMPAGNE ROOM Perrier-Jouët and The Champagne Room teamed up for a tasting of Belle Epoque back vintages this week, led by Keystone Group’s Group Sommelier, Sarah Limacher, and Chris Sheehy, Perrier-Jouët Champagne Ambassador. Stand-out: Belle Epoque 2006 Pale yellow appearance, white fruits, lemon, peach and pear. Rich aromas, nuts and spice. “An elegant expression of the Perrier- Jouët house, cuvée Belle Epoque 2006 is a result of a year of contrasts. The chardonnays were particularly generous, giving a silky texture to the vintage”, Sheehy said while conducting the tasting.
