Portfolio Additions Accolade wines announced that it had reached an agreement in the acquisition of Grant Burge Wines. Upon completion of the agreement, Accolade Wines would acquire the Grant Burge brand, business and Krondorf Winery. At the time, Accolade Wines stated that they were excited by the acquisition, seeing it as an opportunity to build on the domestic strength of Grant Burge Wines’ brands and to grow the business internationally, while Grant and Helen Burge said they were looking forward to working closely with Accolade Wines and growing their portfolio. 156 | drinks yearbook Expansion Opera Bar Sydney announced that they would be expanding in February 2015 to include a standalone café - Café at Opera Bar, which would serve breakfast during the week. Pikes Brewing Company, located at Pikes Polish Hill River Estate opened its doors as the newest brewery in the Clare Valley. Owned by Andrew and Neil Pike, the launch of the new company marked the beginning of brewing on the Pikes family estate. In conjunction with the opening it was announced that Bradley Nolen would be appointed to Head Brewer, a responsibility he would share with his assistant Alister Pike. Policy and Legislation During the party season, DrinkWise launched a campaign targeted at young adults to “stay classy” during both schoolies week and holidays. The campaign used a combination of poignant and targeted messaging, and practical tips to remind young adults to be aware of the risks associated with excessive alcohol consumption. Diageo Australia communicated a similar message to all alcohol consumers as they released a list of recommendations to stay safe during Christmas and the New Year. Top tips included using non-alcoholic ‘spacers’ between drinks, staying hydrated with water, being aware that a glass does not always represent the standard drink size and planning transportation home prior to going out.
