Trade Activity June was a busy month as the London Wine Fair saw more than 11,000 visitors, with a record 780 exhibitors on display (a 50 per cent increase from 2013), while the on-trade and independent retail in attendance increased by 30 per cent and 25 per cent respectively. During the same month, Robbie Slater took home the title of ‘Battle of the Codes’ after five Aussie greats took to the sand to compete in the exclusive XXXX Island Beach Cup. The Red Bull Music Academy, in conjunction with Vivid Live, hosted Giorgio Moroder - “the godfather of disco”, while island2island Beverage Company (i2i) hosted the co-owner of Broker’s Gin, Andy Dawson in Australia. On June 14, the Asahi Silver 130 | drinks yearbook Sessions were held in Tasmania, including a dinner at MONA in Hobart as part of the Museum of Old and New Art’s winter festival - Dark MOFO. Further, on June 27 guests attended the den, ivy, for the Veuve Clicquot Winter Party, while Rekorderlig held a ‘Beautifully Swedish’ inspired dinner at the Bite Club House, Sydney, as part of Rekorderlig Cider’s Winter Fest. In July, Sydney’s number one radio station 2GB launched a new program called Indulge, which was hosted by Dan Mullins and wine expert Ben Malouf. Two birthdays were celebrated in winter 2014 – Peroni, which held an Italian themed first birthday at the Ivanhoe Hotel in Manly and Naked Wines, which celebrated its second birthday at the National Art School in Sydney with its members, media and trade. Similarly, in celebration of its 165th anniversary, Yalumba launched a national marketing campaign - ‘For the Love of Wine’. BULLDOG Gin also launched a new - its first ever, Australian online campaign, ‘That’s the Spirit!’ During the same month, Michael Walton, Executive Director at Nielsen Pacific addressed members of the drinks industry at the drinks association Network Breakfast. Future Influencers of the Drinks Industry also gathered at the Print Room in Paddington, Sydney, to listen to Senior Group Purchasing Manager for the Keystone Group, Joe Rossi discuss how to get brands noticed by venues. Finally, at the close of July, Nielsen held its consumer 360 Pacific event in the Blue Mountains, NSW.
