The drinks association began developing a range of how-to videos, designed to teach members how best to make use of the gamut of services available to them. The latest in autumn was a step-by-step video on how to use the drinks Ad Watch service. Celebrations Hardys celebrated its 160th year on April 12. Bill Hardy commented; “It is heart warming to see that the vision Thomas Hardy, my great-great grandfather, had in 1853, ‘to produce wines which will be prized in the markets of the world’, remains the guiding principle of the Hardys brand five generations later.” Bundaberg Distilling Company (BDC) kicked off its 125th anniversary celebrations by unveiling its BDC 125th Anniversary 86 | drinks yearbook Rum. The BDC’s Master Craftsmen produced the limited anniversary rum by blending some of the Distillery’s oldest and most rare rums. Social Responsibility Diageo was recognised for its significant corporate social responsibility program in autumn 2013, which promotes responsible drinking. The program also seeks to reduce environmental impacts and promotes its commitment to employee wellness and engagement. The Australian Hotels Association (AHA) criticised a report commissioned by the Australian Institute of Criminology as an update on the 2008 report by Collins & Lapsley, which quantified the annual cost of alcohol misuse. AHA said that the report was without credibility and repeated mistakes that were made in the previously discredited report. AHA national CEO Des Crowe said the reproduction of flawed research is a serious concern for the hotel industry and called for the latest report to be ignored by policy makers. New Services GS1 Australia launched an industryfirst iPhone app, designed to make shopping easier for people with dietary issues. The GS1 GoScan gives users access to allergen, ingredient and nutritional information by scanning an item’s barcode. Education
