drinks yearbook | 101 2013 was an exciting and innovative year for us here at De Bortoli. We have continued to grow and strengthen our portfolio by refreshing some of our existing ranges, as well as introducing many new brands. Last year we introduced Sia, a ready to drink Moscato and Pink Moscato. Sia is a category first for our team, continuing our company’s motto of ‘always striving for better’. Over the years, we have endeavored to be seen as an innovative company, always listening and providing a range of products to satisfy out loyal customer base with. Additionally, we have been steadily increasing out digital initiatives, and in September 2013 we were very proud to be announced as the winners of the ‘Best Presence in Social Media (Wine)’ at Industry Voice De Bortoli Wines Darren De Bortoli Managing Director the Australian drinks Awards. This award acknowledges the efforts our marketing teams have put in to understand and connect with our consumers in the competitive social place. Perhaps our greatest achievement this past year has been taking a further step towards our goal of becoming a ‘zero waste wine company’, with the completion of our solar array. After many years of planning, October finally saw us launch one of the largest solar arrays to be installed at any Australian winery. Our move to large-scale solar power came as part of our family’s overall sustainability project - ‘Re-engineering our future for the carbon economy’. Planning for the project began back in 2006, and in 2012 we were fortunate enough to secure a grant of $4.8 million from the Australian Federal Government. The installation of the project began at our head office in Bilbul, New South Wales, in May 2013. The solar installation targets a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by more than 300 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year. With our solar project now complete, we will continue to roll out further operational initiatives, aimed at reducing and eventually eliminating sodium from our production, improving efficiency and reducing the company’s carbon footprint. We are extremely proud of our achievements so far and are looking forward to taking out next steps to ensure a bright and cleaner future for the next generation.
