Popular cider brand Strongbow helped the crowd at the 2011 Splendour in the Grass event forget about the cold with its 37 foot S S Strongbow boat docking in the middle of Woodfordia, giving festivalgoers the chance to indulge in some Strongbow cider. The special platform was supported through pre-festival consumer giveaways with media partners Channel V and Everguide, exclusive cider pourage rights, high visibility POS collateral and a targeted PR campaign that included a media and influencer hosting programme. The Yarra Valley’s Balgownie Estate was awarded the ‘Best Environmental Initiative’ at the 2011 AHA Accommodation Awards for Excellence in June. Their impressive ‘Sustainability Does Not Mean Sacrificing Luxury’ led to the creation of a low environmental impact site that included a self sufficiency of clean water (tank water making up 850,000 litres of water annually), sewerage purification and recycling (conserving seven million litres of water annually), insulation (of rammed earth construction), and flow through ventilation (a significant reduction to air-conditioning). Four years after it was destroyed by fi re, Victoria’s Pyrenees Ridge Winery received a fi ve-star rating in the 2012 edition of Australian wine industry bible, James Halliday’s Australian Wine Companion. To accompany the fi ve star win, the 2009 reserve shiraz also received the highest rating of any of the wines in Pyrenees Ridge’s history, given a score of 95/100, among the best scores given to any wine produced anywhere in Australia. A further 12 Five Star accolades were dished out by James Halliday as all 12 members of Australia’s First Families of Wines (AFFW) were granted the coveted rating. “The fi ve red stars rating from James Halliday in his 2012 Australian Wine Companion for all of our members ratifi es our position as leaders in the industry. It is a wonderful achievement for AFFW and we are thrilled that we can all celebrate this achievement together,” said AFFW chairman, Ross Brown. After only one year of operation, Darlinghurst’s Eau-de-Vie was named as the World’s Best New Cocktail Bar at the 2011 Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards, thanks to its extensive Accolades
