drinks yearbook | 101 In July, Bacardi Lion announced the launch of Sensology, a multi-tiered drinks education program to assist bartenders, bar owners and passionate consumers across all areas of the drinks industry. Sensology took a fresh approach to bartender and cocktail training, encouraging participants to engage the senses when learning the art of the cocktail experience from an experienced team of Bacardi brand ambassadors. The Sensology trade program offered a vast array of bespoke training modules covering branded and unbranded experiences, alongside practical workshops that offer expert advice on running a successful bar operation. The Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation launched a Wine Information Dashboard in June to provide easier access to the most commonly requested information from its winefacts database. The new tool also could be quickly downloaded onto a hard-drive for use without an internet connection while travelling. Navigation was improved by providing simple, guided access to the series of interlinked reports. Also in June, AWBC launched a consumer website www.apluswine.com.au to support its new A+ Australian Wine campaign. The website encouraged winemakers and wineries to publish their stories’ to further promote the heritage and regionality of the Australian wine industry. Ten key industry leaders then visited China for the international preview of A+ Australian Wine at the Shanghai World Expo. The Australian Wine Research Institute in July unveiled a new labelling system for pinot gris and pinot grigio which explained whether the style of the wine is ‘crisp’, ‘luscious’ or somewhere in between. Developed in collaboration with winemakers, the PinotG Style Spectrum was designed to give consumers more confi dence when picking from the range of styles now being produced in Australia. In August, Fine Wine Partners again facilitated the Court of Master Sommeliers in Melbourne and Sydney for the third year. The course offers beverage professionals the opportunity to work towards the internationally recognised qualifi cation of Master Sommelier. For the fi rst time, the introductory level of the program was also offered in Brisbane. Petaluma generously provided the Petaluma scholarship again to assist in funding travel for the top student to undertake an educational trip overseas. Education
