Robert Oatley Vineyards released in November the new James Oatley TIC TOK range. The wines launched with an RRP of $18.99 and included a shiraz, cabernet sauvignon, sauvignon blanc, pinot gris and chardonnay. The range was named after Robert Oatley’s great great grandfather who arrived as a convict in 1815 to Sydney, as a talented clock maker whose skills were recognised and put to use as keeper of the Town Hall clock by Govenor Macquarie. The Wild Oats range also saw the addition of a tempranillo, using fruit from the King Valley. One of the nation’s most loved fruity wines was given a makeover and joined by two new additions. Crouchen Riesling was joined with the addition of Crouchen Sauvignon Blanc and Crouchen Riesling Rosé, to form a new range. “With the creation of a new Crouchen-based range, we are expecting to see a whole new generation of wine drinkers develop a crush of their own on a wine style that has become a real favourite,” said Brown Brothers’ CEO Ross Brown. In September, Coopers Brewery introduced Coopers 62 Pilsner - a full fl avour Pilsner based on the classic Bohemian style, offering Australians a home grown pilsner. Yalumba released their Vermentino 2009 into the market as an individual wine. Made by chief winemaker Louisa Rose, the fruit was sourced from Langhorne Creek in South Australia. Found in only a handful of regions, Vermentino is still a relatively unknown variety in Australia. This native Italian grape has fl ourished well in Langhorne Creek, South Australia, where it ‘weathered’ the conditions of the now infamous Jan 27 – Feb 7 2009 heat wave particularly well. Given Australia’s climatic conditions, this is very promising for the future. In October CCA released Mother 250ml to the on-premise market, providing customers with a legitimate mixer alternative to Red Bull. Lion Nathan released its fi rst Boag’s product since taking ownership of the Tasmanian brewer in January 2008. In October 2009, James Boag’s PURE was launched – a full bodied, full strength lager, brewed with four Tasmanian ingredients, being water, barley, hops and yeast. The Yarra Burn Blanc de Blancs 04 was released in October by Constellation Wines Australia, its fi rst all chardonnay sparkling wine at $45 RRP. Also from CWA from the value spectrum of the portfolio came the release of Omni Light, Omni Light Pink and Omni Cranberry. The new Omni Light sparklings picked up on a popular trend surrounding wellbeing and contained The Crouchen Sauvignon Blanc is crisp and aromatic with a light fruity twist and the Crouchen Riesling Rose features all the fruity liveliness of Crouchen Riesling but with a splash of pink and some alluring watermelon and rose petal characters.
